Africa on the Global Stage: A Conversation with Amb. Martin Kimani

Interview subject, in conversation with moderator Amb. Makila James; Permanent Representative of Kenya to the United Nations

On November 4, 2022, the United States Institute of Peace hosted a livestreamed public conversation with Martin Kimani, Kenya's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, titled "Africa on the Global Stage." Joseph Sany, Vice President of USIP's Africa Center, gave introductory remarks, and Amb. Makila James, Senior Advisor at USIP's Africa Center, moderated the discussion with Kimani on the goals of the 2022 U.S.-Africa Strategy, the Security Council's responses to threats to peace and security in Africa and globally, and Africa's role in advancing peace and development through the UN and other multilateral forums. The event came roughly nine months into Kenya's tenure as a non-permanent Security Council member and eight months after Kimani's widely covered February 2022 Council statement on Ukraine.
